HAB is committed to creating communities which are a pleasure to live in and sustainable in the broadest sense. The idea for HAB grew from a mixture of desire and anger. There are several good exemplar housing projects in the UK and many more abroad. What upset us was that they were little known and seemingly ineffectual in changing the mindset of large developers. We felt that the best way to improve the quality and design of housebuilding was to show the very best examples and raise public awareness. Even better if we could build a development, populate it and create a community and then somehow measure the effects of good design on people’s quality of life. Oh, and all this is going to be filmed by TalkbackThames for Channel 4.
